EFFECTIVE SKIN REDNESS TREATMENTS THAT MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Sensitive, redness, irritated skin can be caused by our environment. The sun’s harmful UV rays can make skin rough, dry and wrinkled. Over time, the rays will damage our blood vessels underneath the skin. This is why it’s important to speak with a specialist about your skin treatments so they can devise a special plan to help you deal with your skin concerns.
It’s all about reducing the incidence of flare-ups by understanding your triggers and managing your overall skin health with medical-grade skincare products and treatments that address the symptoms.
CAUSES OF SKIN REDNESS
Redness is an extremely common skin symptom/condition that can be caused by a number of reasons. Some common causes of redness include rashes, burns, eczema from allergies or the weather, acne, rosacea, drug or topical allergies, skin infection, or more severe skin conditions.
On more mild cases of redness, you can reduce the redness and calm the skin by using topical or at home remedies. You can also get medical aesthetic treatments such as chemical peels, which will yield more effective and long-lasting results as opposed to using at home or topical solutions.
However, for individuals that experience prolonged cases of redness, more intense treatment options would be required to reduce the redness on the skin. Severe cases of redness are most common due to a skin condition called Rosacea.
Rosacea is a long-term skin disorder where the individual experiences a lot of redness on their faces, most commonly on the person’s cheeks, nose, forehead and chin area. On rare cases, redness can also be visible on the individual’s neck, chest and ears.
Skin can become sensitive for many reasons, and any time in life, from babyhood to old age. It occurs when skin’s protective barrier function is compromised, causing skin to become susceptible to external irritants, such like bacteria, chemical substances, allergens or others. Symptoms can appear on the face, body and scalp, and include redness, scaling and swelling. These can be itchy and disturbing in everyday life and can result in intense physical discomfort. While some people are predisposed to these ‘outbreaks’ of the condition, others are surprised by these sudden ‘skin moods’. Sensitive skin often reacts unpredictably and can appear anywhere on the body.
Understanding the importance of skin’s natural defences, and the factors that weaken them, can help to decode this ‘skin talk’. The unpredictability of sensitive skin means that in many cases, effective solutions are about prevention rather than cure. The aim therefore, is to control and minimise its causes and stimuli.
HOW TO RECOGNIZE IT?
Skin has a natural protective barrier, which keeps bacteria and harmful substances from entering the body, while limiting water loss and preventing dehydration. This process keeps skin healthy and moisturised, maintaining its elasticity and firmness.
However, external factors like climate and internal ones like stress can undermine this process, weakening skin’s natural defences and making it feel rough and dry. External stimuli can then exacerbate the situation, causing skin to become inflamed.
To recognise sensitive skin, look for: Visible signs like erythema (redness or a rash), scaling, swelling or roughness; and Sensory signs like itching, tightness, burning or stinging.
It can occur on the face, lips, hands, body and scalp. And can be triggered by physical change too, either temporary, such as pregnancy, or ongoing, such as ageing. It shares some similarities with dry skin, but is not always related to that condition nor will its symptoms necessarily be alleviated by dry skin care solutions.
To recognise hypersensitive skin: Sensitive skin is closely related to hypersensitive skin and the symptoms and triggers are similar. However, with hypersensitive skin, the skin's nerves are even more sensitive and reactions can therefore be more frequent or severe.
Here are some of the latest redness and sensitive skin treatments offered at Rejuvenus Clinic:
CHEMICAL PEELS - Chemical Peels are a great way to reduce rosacea and redness in general. Chemical Peels consists of an acid solution (that can be mild or medium) that is adjusted to fit the patient’s specific needs and it is applied to the face. After the chemical peel solution is applied to the patient’s face, the outermost layer of the skin is sluffed off and it allows your skin to regenerate itself. Ultimately, the redness and acne in your skin that you have experienced from rosacea will be dramatically reduced. Chemical Peels require very little downtime, cleanses your skin from within, and increases cell turnover rate. There are multiple types of chemical peels- each contains a different type of acid. Most chemical peels are composed of carefully customized portions of glycolic acid, salicylic acid (beta hydroxy acid BHA) or lactic acid (alpha hydroxyl acid AHA). Chemical peels cannot completely treat rosacea, but it can significantly reduce the redness, acne and bumps that can be caused by it.
MEDICAL FACIALS - Our sensitive skin facial uses mild hypoallergenic products to prevent your skin from becoming red or inflamed. Sensitive skin facials can greatly correct the sun’s damaging effects by improving the texture of your skin. Since the skin on your face is tender, it is important to get facials that contain minerals and supplements like vitamins A, C, E, and B to improve your complexion. We use natural fruit and plant enzymes to increase firmness in your skin. Hyaluronic acid is included to treat signs of aging like wrinkles and to boost the natural collagen and elastin found within the dermis. These facials allow you to leave the spa with less redness because we give you a deep clean and good exfoliation. Our moisturizer contains SPF to protect your skin from the elements.
MICRONEEDLING - Microneedling, which is also known as Skin Needling or Collagen Induction Therapy is a skin treatment that also treats redness and rosacea. Tiny needles are used to puncture the skin, creating controlled injury. As the skin is being punctured with microneedles, your natural collagen rushes to the surface of the epidermal layers on your skin. The collagen then repairs any damage on the outer layers of the skin, plumps the skin and reduces the appearance of redness. Microneedling skin treatments are safe, relatively painless, requires zero downtime and it is a natural form of treatment as no chemicals are involved. Microneedling has be done every four to six weeks, to maintain effective results, and it also helps with rejuvenating the skin.
MEDICAL GRADE SKINCARE - If you have been diagnosed with sensitive skin, our specialist will recommend using medical-grade skincare products for the safe and effective management of your symptoms. While drugstore skincare brands are generally formulated for people with normal skin, medical-grade skincare products have higher concentrations of beneficial ingredients designed to address specific skin issues. Experts have found profound benefits in using medical-grade skincare products containing green tea, feverfew, niacinamide, azelaic acid, and zinc or titanium oxide for sensitive and rosacea treatment.

Here is a list of our Frequently Asked Questions. If you have any other questions or concerns, our experts will provide you will all the information you need.
Am I a Good Candidate For Sensitive Skin Facials?
You’re a good candidate for sensitive skin/rosacea facials if you have red and irritated skin. You may also have small bumps that appear with your facial rashes.
How Actions & Events Can Worsen the Condition?
An increase in attention to personal hygiene has meant that people are more likely to shower or bathe frequently in very hot water and rub themselves dry. This can result in a loss of natural moisturising factors and surface lipids. Cleansers with conventional surfactants will clean skin, but will also dry it out.
How Skin’s Natural Defences Become Weakened?
The uppermost layer of the epidermis is the horny layer (stratum corneum), which forms skin's barrier against the outside world. It prevents invasion by microorganisms and substances like chemicals and allergens. It also minimises transepidermal water loss (TEWL), protecting the body from dehydration. This is how skin protects itself
What Results Will I See?
You should start seeing a more even complexion after 1 to 2 weeks after your treatment. You may need more than one sensitive skin/rosacea treatment in order to achieve ideal results.
Will The Redness In My Skin Go Away On Its Own?
Unfortunately, the redness associated with rosacea is likely to worsen as you get older. Many people with rosacea are able to identify those things that tend to trigger flare-ups (certain food, drinks, weather, activities). Avoiding these triggers will help control the symptoms, however this is not a cure for the condition.
Is There Any Downtime?
There’s no downtime associated with the sensitive skin/rosacea facials, making it an excellent addition to any client’s regular skincare regimen. A typical treatment takes about 45 minutes to an hour to perform.
