WHAT IS IT ?

Onychomycosis – or fungal nail infection – is an infection caused by fungus in the nail or nail bed. The condition causes the nail to thicken and discolour with a yellow or white appearance. It may also cause the nail to separate from the nail bed. Onychomycosis most commonly affects nails on the feet, but it can also affect fingernails.

Laser therapy is one of the most effective ways to target fungus in the nail bed. The laser is able to penetrate the nail more effectively than other treatments, without causing any discomfort. Due to deep, pulse profile heating in the nail bed that kills the parasitic fungus, the efficacy of this approach surpasses many traditional topical and oral treatments. Treatment preserves the affected nail and prevents the fungus from spreading.

HOW DOES IT WORK ?

A fungal nail infection occurs when fungus finds its way into the nail or under the nail bed. Nails become discoloured, brittle, thickened and extremely difficult to treat with traditional medications.

This treatment harnesses a powerful, deep penetrating laser. The laser is ergonomically designed to evenly heat the tissue and nail bed, eliminating the fungal infection. The procedure is safe and painless, with absolutely no downtime. Treatment is performed once a week for 4 weeks.

Here is a list of our Frequently Asked Questions. If you have any other questions or concerns, our experts will provide you will all the information you need.

Is a laser fungal nail treatment painful?

No – a cooling system is used during the procedure, which counters the heat from the laser. As the heat of the laser penetrates the tissue, the cooling system balances the effects of the heat for your comfort.

Do I have to do anything in-between treatments?

Due to the sensitive and contagious nature of onychomycosis, we have a very strict regime that we require you to maintain in-between treatments. A post-procedure guideline is supplied to assist with optimal results and prevent recurrence of the fungus.

Are the results instant?

You can expect to see some improvement at the completion of treatment, but results will take time to appear. The laser treatment aims to kill off the fungal infection through heat. As such, the nail must grow out for you to fully see the results, and this may take several weeks.

How many treatments are required?

In order to eradicate the fungus that causes onychomycosis, weekly treatments are required for 4 weeks in total. It is important to know that even if only one nail shows signs of infection, all nails on the hands or feet will be treated due to the highly contagious nature of onychomycosis. Your treatment plan is confirmed in your initial consultation, after we perform an assessment of your nails

Is there anything I should do prior to treatment?

We do ask that you cut your nails as short as possible. If your nails are thickened, we also recommend having the nails filed (preferably by a professional).

What makes you different to other laser clinics?

Our difference is the level of care, precision and knowledge we provide. Our medical practitioners will perform a thorough assessment prior to treatment. As a private laser clinic, we assure your comfort by giving you individual attention, custom treatment plans and long consultations.
